St. Martin at the Schneeberg, formerly Europe's highest mine, now an Alpine refuge and adventure mine with exhibition room.
Experience 800 years of mining (silver, lead, and zinc)! Up to 1,000 miners worked here at depths of up to 2,355 meters below the surface. The mine boasts more than 100 km of tunnels. Europe's longest conveyor belt installation. This is a geologically and mineralogically interesting region. Once Europe's highest mine and highest long-term place of inhabitance. Now an adventure mine with exhibition room. Two-hour and full-day tours: Ride in the mining cars! Extensive mining operation with lots of tunnels, veins of minerals, and in part well-preserved conveyor machinery and structures.
Attractions: Exhibition room with coin-stamp, short tour (approx. one hour in length) with passage through the tunnels. Schneeberg Total: Long tour above ground and underground, every Thursday and Saturday.
